A Typical Canadian Comment

Guess what? It actually snowed here in Arkansas! Well, if you want to call it snow. These people crack me up. They complain about how cold it gets, the icey roads, and the dusting of snow they get. They actually shut down schools today. So what did I tell people? You want to experience cold, snow, and ice; then come with me back home. Last I heard about that!

I'm enjoying myself in Arkansas, the people crack me up. We got a youth member you'd think is the twin to Larry the cable guy (watch blue collar comedy tour). One day during a movie night he came out with the funniest hillbilly comment, "you say potato, I say tater." Everyone in the fellowship hall lost it. Like I said the people down here crack me up, but I tell you this much they're also the most caring people I've met. All they want to do is help someone a little less fortunate then them.

It's amazing what you can learn from watching and interacting with people. After all as ministers we are in the people business.

Troy my man!
Just spotted you on Neil's sight and wanted to pop in and say hello.
Sure miss you in Illinois, but glad to hear things are going well in Arkansas.

Welcome to the South my friend! They are unaccustomed to snow, frightened by a little bit of it, and many of them absolutely cannot drive on it. But they are wonderful people and sweet tea with lemon is fantastic! And you have to admit, there is no Gus' Fried Chicken in Calgary!

Wait until I get there and we eat friend chicken, BBQ and catfish...maybe all in the same day!

I just can't handle what they call "greens" or "soul food"

rofl whenever I'm offered I just tell them "thank you, but I'll leave some of the southern cooking and eating to the southerners"

Girl, you need to learn to like that soul food! I hated greens when I first tried them, but they are one of my fav's now. One word of caution... don't eat any greens made by a white person. I don't mean anything prejudicial by that, but I believe you have to be black to really know the secret to cook greens. I have friends up here that cook them and invite me over whenever they do.

When you combine turnip greens with mustard greens and collard greens, you have made a match made in heaven. If you're going to live in the South you must learn to eat those things, and they're full of vitamin K, good for you and the little one! Combine that with Gus' friend chicken and you're on your way to heaven shouting victory!
